HISTORICAL NOTES
1944
Four (4) Daughters
of Charity of Sacred-Heart of Jesus arrive in Beauvoir at Bishop Mgr
Desranleau's request for the service of pilgrims, and as a temporary
home for devoted ladies seeking rest (5 or 6) and for the support to the priests. The first "Pilgrim
House" was located on the actual Shrine's parking lot.

1944-1948
The D.C.S.H.J.
bought the Beauvoir domain and took responsability for the Shrine. A
priest resided on the spot for the needs of the Sisters and the
visitors.
1945
Building of a
larger chapel under the guidance of Mgr Gérard Cambron and of the
D.C.S.H.J. for the interior.
1948
Extension of the Pilgrim’s House to receive twelve (12) persons.
1951
Was marked by the
burning of the Sisters’ house and decision to rebuild. Sr
Marie-Conrad committed the project to the protection of St Joseph.

1953
Opening of the new building of “La Villa Notre-Dame” on the actual site to receive up to thirty (30) persons.
1953-1974
La Villa Notre-Dame offered an inn service to the Beauvoir’s pilgrims. Some days, the Sisters served as many as 300 meals.
1974
Opening of a restaurant in the shrine’s basement.
Freed from the inn service, the Sisters could focus on their hosting mission and other services
of the Shrine. Sr Rita Poulin was a pastoral team member at the Shrine from 1988 to 1995 and Sr Georgette Martel act as secretary.

1950-1960
The Sisters D.C.S.H.J. from 605 South Bowen Street in Sherbrooke took charge of the liturgical singing at the Shrine on Sundays and feast days.
1988-1995
Sister Rita Poulin became member of the
sanctuaries animation team. Today, la Villa Notre-Dame continues her
welcoming devotion.
2003
La Villa Notre-Dame celebrated its fiftieth (50th) anniversary in
its service to pilgrims.
2004
On Saturday July 24, 2004, the D.C.S.H.J. celebrated their sixtieth (60th) anniversary of presence and service to the Beauvoir’s shrine.
Today
La Villa Notre-Dame faithfully continues its vocation of housing pilgrims and guests. The Sisters’ congregation and the personnel are at your service to make your stay at Beauvoir a remarkable and enriching experience.
